چکیده

Ferroresonance is a highly destructive power quality phenomenon caused by complex oscillations generated by nonlinear magnetizing inductances in ferromagnetic materials and capacitive elements in power systems. In an effort to better understand ferroresonance and predict bifurcations and responses, an improved nonlinear transformer model for dynamic and steady-state operating conditions is developed which includes magnetic hysteresis nonlinearities of the transformer core. The model expands on Tellinen’s scalar hysteresis approach which includes major and minor hysteresis loop effects. This paper carries out an investigation into single-phase transformer ferroresonance initiated by switching transients using the developed model. A range of ferroresonance modes (e.g., subharmonic and chaotic) initiated by switching transients is identified with the transformer core model. The model is used to compute time-domain waveforms of transformer flux, voltage and magnetizing current for several ferroresonance modes. Furthermore, Poincaré and phase-plane portraits are used to examine the stability domain of observed ferroresonance modes. The main contribution of this work is a new analysis into ferroresonance through an improved transformer model which incorporates magnetic hysteresis effects. Key–Words: Chaos, ferroresonance, hysteresis model, nonlinear dynamics, Poincaré, power quality, transformer.

Based on the Preisach theory in hysteresis, this paper presents a novel transformer core model. Unlike existing mathematical-based hysteresis models, the proposed model is based on a physically correct hysteresis model and can precisely represent the actual behaviors of magnetic materials. In addition, the experimental results of a ferroresonance test of a Voltage Transformer (VT) are presented...

Investigating Ferroresonance Phenomenon in a Single- Phase Transformer with the Effect of Magnetic Hysteresis

Ferroresonance is a non-linear phenomenon and very dynamic in the power quality problems. This phenomenon should be carefully analyzed so that preventive measures could be taken before its appearance and prevent injury and damage to electrical power appliances. Ferroresonance is seen more in the middle-voltage networks with supplying unloaded or slightly loaded transformers by cables. The mater...

This paper studies the effect of new suggested ferroresonance limiter on controlling ferroresonance oscillations in the power transformer. It is expected that this limiter generally can control the ferroresonance. For studying these phenomena, at first ferroresonance is introduced and a general modeling approach is given. A simple case of ferroresonance in a three phase transformer is used to i...
